    Lightbulb TBUT and Schirmer scores

    Dear Dr. Latkany,

I want to thank you for your answer in advance.
Having MGD/ocular rosacea could you give an explanation(meaning) how/why I had a Schirmer score of zero in both eyes and TBUT of 10-12sec.

I am also very interested to understand the mechanism that takes place after upper flow controllers are inserted in addition to lower and if this is reversible after the plugs are removed. This gives blotting for a few weeks or more and then gradually decreases.

    Thank you so much again.

    Kind Regards,

    George

Typically in a more exact world mgd/rosacea should have a TBUT < 5 seconds and a schirmer greater than 10 as it is not about quantity and more about quality. Could you rephrase your second question because I did not understand what you needed to know?

    Dear Dr. Latkany,

Thank you for your answer in advance.
Adding upper plugs in addition to lower gives a few(or more) weeks of tearing which then subsides. How this can be explained?
If the plugs will be removed will my tear production capability return to normal?

    Thank you so much again.

    Kind Regards,

    George

Good question. For the most part it should return to normal afterwards as long as the eye reflex mechanism is intact. Your eye should "adjust" to the environment it is in unless your tear reflex mechanism is is no longer functioning.
