pingueculitis
Dr. Latkany,
I have pinguecula in both eyes, which are most of the time inflamed . I also have red blood vessels extending from the corners of my eyes to these spots. Thse seem to have developed in the last 2 years. If I'm in challenging environment like heater, air condition, dust, pollution, smoke etc, blood vessels in corners get very red.
(this happens even while I'm using the "refresh plus" multiple times).
I always wear sunglasses outside.
Any suggestions on how I can keep the inflammation/redness down?
Any safe medications I can use?
Thanks,

Any raised lesion on the surface of the eye usually runs the risk of not being coated by a tear film. Usually on top fo the lsion but sometimes on the inferior edge of it as with each blink the tears get pushed around and not over these little mountains so they dry eye up and you get subsequent dryness and irritation whcih gives you subsequent redness. You could remove them but this is a bit aggressive. Otherwise you need a thicker coat over the eyes to hopefully cover the lesion. And between thicker more viscous drops or plugs this should do the trick.
Have to go see patients.
