Some improvement for me
Just sharing some news of my improvement because I can add to the 'It's Possible!' pile- which we all need to see, to keep us going
In March 2012 I was diagnosed with moderately severe dry eye after 8 months of burning eye pain and redness. The problem was both aqueous deficiency and MGD:
Schirmer results (eyes closed 5min)
Left eye 4mm Right Eye 8mm
I was given doxycycline 100mg capsules (1 x daily) which I am still taking
Restasis (was taking 4 x daily since March, now 2 x daily)
Hot compresses (morning and night) followed by light massage of lids.
omega fish or flaxseed oil (1000- 3000 mg daily)
I also started a new diet in May (not prescribed by doctor): cut out dairy, gluten, sugar (aside from special occasions such as dinner parties). Starting to think about reducing inflammatory foods. I'm taking calcium to make up for lack of dairy.
Two days ago I went for my 3rd check up to date:
Schirmer results (eyes open and blinking 5 min)
Left eye 14mm Right Eye 18mm
Also had Tear Lab test this time. Result: 290
I was told that I am battling only MGD now- my aqueous levels are good. There are some small symptoms of rosacea but we will follow this at next appouintments.
The doctor believes that the Restasis has helped me a lot and should be continued.
One thing I am sure of is that at least 1000mg positive thinking per day (capsules or tablets is ok) is also a good idea I was told numerous times that it can't improve- that all my efforts will at best slow down or halt the process of getting worse.
I have felt incredibly low at times, and I attribute a lot of this to regret (should I have taken better care of my eyes before, etc.) but mostly at the constant fear of getting worse. It is hard to stay motivated when you think it will lead to nowhere.
Since finding out about my improvement, I wish that I had listened more to my inner voice that was determined to fight all this gloom and doom. Just want to say to anyone reading this: they are your eyes- you have the final say in whether you will succeed or not- it's not anyone else's place to tell you.

Totally agree with you Lacrima. Its great to hear about such a positive improvement and well done! There are many things doctors know nothing about and the human body is complex and unique and can repair itself to some degree given time. I also felt that there was something more to my eye irritation than mgd and bleph and I have found that I was right, even if some opthamologists are too proud to admit it.
Thats great you feel better. I am stopping Restasis as it has really made things a lot worse for me. I am still on doxy 100mg a day, warm compresses, gland expression and use Lotemax for the inflammation (carefully). Did u find the Restasis made things worse at first?? Because it's increased my redness, burning and brings out my inflammation... did it decrease any redness for you Lacrima?
Thank you Lacrima for posting a message of "hope." I try to keep in mind that people are on this forum because they are currently suffering, right now, seeking answers. Those that improve move on in life and so have no need to visit or participate in this forum. We're not seeing all those stories. Very important to remember who is participating in this forum - people currently in pain suffering, seeking support, help, and answers. There is hope and ideally some day after years of relief, we'll come back on this forum to write a post saying "hey, I used to be on this forum 5x a day but I am much better now and just wanted to let everyone know there is hope." Wouldn't that be great?
i love this tread Lacrima.. I have been dealing with dry eye-mgd and sjogrens for over 5 years..adn i will never give up..today im super dry but you know what everyday is different....and no one can tell us this is it... there are always new meds and sometimes people get better on their own... you see it everyday..
keep us posted.. i love the positivity... it makes a world of difference in life!
