gum cellulose eye drops
gum cellulose eye drops....
My cornea specialist just perscribed me this....has anybody tried these? and if so what were your outcomes??
They said its a perscription eye drop that is supposed to help with dryness, etc..
but I couldnt really find any info on here or the web!

This sounds like a prescription that I was on in March of last year. My doctor prescribed it and the prescription could only be filled by a few pharmacies. Mine was ordered through a pharmacy in South Dakota, I think. It was an extremely thick eye drop, like syrup almost. It was preservative free. It came in a bottle that I had to keep in the fridge, or in a little cooler. I found it helpful. it was thick so it lasted a while, and the coolness was soothing to my eyes.

Yes, I just got it in the mail. and I have to refrigerate after opening. Mine was ordered from cali. I think we are talking about the same one.
I'm glad to see it helped. are you still using them? if not why?

It was prescribed, along with Restasis, Lotemax and a bunch of OTC drops and ointments, to treat SLK. When I was at my worst and my eyelids felt like they were snagging on my eyes from extreme dryness, the cell gum helped a lot. but as things got more under control and I could back off some of the drops, I stopped using it. I'm very fortunate in that the dryness is now being successfully treated with contacts. Maybe not a permanent solution, but I'm thankful every day that I can function again.
Do you have a diagnosis?

Were there any side effects? Can you only get these in the US?
-
I really havent gotten a "official" diagnosis.
but from what i have been hearing its "aqueous deficiency"
Although I'm not sure if it's doing any help, Ive been to my opthamologist today. I had new lower plugs put in. my eyes feel a lot better and they look a lot better.
But I cannot tell if its due to the drops, the plugs, the flarex they have me back on; or if its all 3.
I hope it's the new plugs/c gum drops b/c I know i cannot be on flarex forever...but something tells me it is the flarex that is helping the inflammation.
giraffes1703,
So far I haven't had any side effects, like i said earlier I dont know if the change is from my new plugs or flarex; so its hard for me to tell right now. No side effects, but if it helps is what I don't know. and yes you can get it in the U.S. i would talk to you opthamalogist/cornea specialist and ask them about it. They will have to call it in to the pharmacy company and they mail it to you.

Thanks - I will try my luck but I am in Aust. I was at the specialist today and asked him but he said he didn't know anything about them. I will try my other specialist.

I tried gum cellulose during a DED pain flare. No help. But then we are all different. Best of luck. Bill
