Eye pain after Lid expression ..is my massage technique wrong?

I have been trying a new lid massage technique lately after having a hot shower, rather than just do circular massages on the eyes for 30 secs ..i now push on lids with gentle but firm pressure especially at the lid edges as well, maybe the pushing on the lids is putting pressure on the eyes?

Is it better to just glide the finger over the lids with medium pressure rather than just exerting pressure on individual parts of the eyelid..is it also possible to damage the eye or delicate glands inside the lids if im being to agressive.

    Thanks friends

Try the Q tip thing. It works, but you need a good mirror so you can see what you are doing and where you are poking the Q tip. Used to use my fingers and I had sore eyes, sore lids, and was rubbing the skin off. Everything was irritated. Good luck. This is the closest I can come to the technique Dr. Latkany describes in his Dry Eye book:
