It could be. When you get that feeling, have you tried flushing your eyes out with a lot of drops? If something is in your eyes, that would take care of it. Also, when you put drops in, keep your eyes closed for at least 2 minutes if at all possible. One of my specialists chastised me for not doing that (of course, he didn't bother to tell me that I should be doing it) and I've found that it makes a huge difference in the way my eyes feel when I put drops in.

Sounds like an abrasion due to tear break-up,(a dry spot) and yes happens to plenty of people. Over here ther docs claim that the cornea is the fastest healing part of the body, and a normal abrasion takes 30-45 mins to heal, putting drops in when you feel the sensation wont provide instant cure, you do have to sit it out in my experience.
I do not get them any more thank goodness, apart from infrequent feeling which dont last more than 30secs now. At it's worst, i had some that lasted overnight and resumed a few hours into the next day-eyelids rubbing/blinking/chafing-. I think my lowest point was after i went to an outdoor sporting event that became a dust storm and i got a PROPER! ebrasion which took 4 days to pass.

i feel like this most of the time in my left eye--have been to 2 different eye docs 2 weeks and 3 weeks ago.. i had a silver nitrate cauterization done which was supposed to help this eye but i still feel the same. the f/u doc didnt see anything wrong with my cornea.. ughhh.. i guess its just dryness and allergies on top of ==i know the allergies are making my eyes worse. thanks for the replies and i will try to close my eye after putting drops in for 2 minutes (havent done that before.).thanks

I get this alot and it does hurt and is very ANNOYING, plus I only get it in my left eye. So yes many people with dry eyes get this and I also hear that their eyes are dry also. There is a a connection. Just remember to try to keep your anxiety down and remember that there are alot of medications coming out that look promising.

    Hi Jenny,
When I feel like this it is usually mucous. Rinsing helps, but it comes back. Dry spots feel like that too. Sorry you are feeling so bad. Best wishes to you!
