Hi all,

Having just had SmartPlugs fitted.....it's kinda hard to see whether they are still there except by the difference they make.

I wondered, do they ever flush themselves out.....or is it something that is highly unlikely?

Also, is there any way of detecting that they are still there or gone!........like somehow monitoring the punctum.

Ian.

Yes. (Happened to me.)

No. True of most intracanalicular plugs, and one of their disadvantages.

I just spoke to my eye doc today and he said that lower SmartPlugs partially drain........he's recommending, if I need it, a different plug that expands more than SmartPlugs do.

I assume he'd flush out the old before inserting the new......

Yes the plug can migrate. I have heard some docs say they can "massage" the plug out.

I would hope he irrigates out the Smart Plug before inserting a new one.
