View Full Version : Right eye won't focus

I had a contact lens emergency 3 weeks ago. I was wearing a lens in my right eye only (mono vision) for distance. Left eye is almost perfect for near vision. One morning I couldn't see shortly after I put my lens in. I thought I had dropped it, and wore my glasses for the day. The next morning it was extremely painful (extremely!) and I had to pry hard to open it. Shortly after, the lens dropped down from the top of my eyeball and stuck to the front of my eye. It was folded over several times and very dry. It scratched my cornea pretty severely, which is now scarred. The first week, I had 3 visits to my eye doctor. The second week she did a total eye health exam and a vision exam. At first it looked like I was looking through white opaque plastic. The vision is nearly back now, and probably as good as it will get.

I have pulsating vision to begin with due to DE, but now the right eye will hardly focus at all. It's not too bad for middle distance, but for near and far it's pretty useless. My eye doc is hoping more vision will come back with time. My vision exam takes about an hour due to the pulsating vision. Now it seems like the right eye can't be corrected with any RX. I work at a computer 8-12 hours a day, and am having severe headaches by late morning that get worse as the day goes on.

I'll get my new glasses in a few days, and hopefully that will help. No more contacts, ever.

Has anyone else had anything like this happen? Any suggestions? Fortunately my eye doctor is very thorough and stays on top of the dry eye as much as possible.

Frustrated,
Denise

I am sorry to hear of your troubles. I haven't had anything happen like that, but I think maybe you have some more healing to do. Give it some time, and go to a cornea specialist to get a second opinion if you have any doubts about the care and advice you're getting.

You may have to wear an eye patch to cover the injured eye while at work, so that your brain only has the one image to deal with. It might help with the headaches.

Let us know how your new glasses work out.
